Murder At The Olympics

I watched the opening night of the Olympics in Beijing last night which was really beautiful but this story is not so beautiful.

The parents of former 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth "Wiz" Bachman and in-laws of U.S. men's volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon, were attacked by a man wielding a knife while touring a Chinese monument.

Todd and Barbara Bachman from Lakeville, Minn. were with their daughter Elisabeth and Chinese tour guide visiting the 13th-century Drum Tower when 3 of them were attacked by a Chinese man.

The U.S. Olympic Committee confirmed that Todd Bachman died from multiple stab wounds and that Barbara Bachman suffered from life-threatening injuries. Elisabeth Bachman was unharmed but their Chinese tour guide had also been injured.

The attack appeared to be a random act of violence and the attacker, 47 year old Tang Yongming, jumped to his death from an 130 foot balcony of the Drum Tower, following the attack.

The Chinese government had already added major security in Beijing for the games and it is rare when tourists are attacked in China but it looks like it does happen.

So sad.
